'Don't panic over rupee fall': Raghuram Rajan warns against exhausting forex reserves
India has used about half of the more than $140 billion secured through special measures earlier this year to support the rupee and absorb surplus liquidity in the banking system.
Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Raghuram Rajan has urged India not to panic over the rupee's depreciation, cautioning against exhausting foreign exchange reserves to defend a particular currency level. In an interview with Reuters' Global Markets Forum on Tuesday, Rajan said India should avoid trying to keep the rupee at a specific level and instead assess the situation in the context of previous currency crises. The Indian rupee has lost around 6% of its value so far in 2026, making it Asia's second-worst-performing currency.
