Urban India spends more, shops less often
Urban India's FMCG market grew 13% in Q2 2026 driven by higher spending per trip despite a 1.8% drop in shopping frequency and e-commerce channel growth.

Urban India's fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) market is growing, but consumers are not necessarily shopping more frequently. Households spent 13% more on FMCG products in the second quarter of calendar year 2026, even as shopping occasions fell 1.8%, suggesting that the consumption recovery is being driven more by higher spending per trip than by an increase in purchase frequency. According to Worldpanel by Numerator's Asia Pulse report, released on Friday, spending per shopping trip in urban India rose 11.5% during the quarter.
