There was a time when calling someone a storyteller was not a compliment. It meant they were fibbing, or at least embellishing, like a colleague recounting how they single-handedly saved the quarterly numbers. Now it is a job title, and an increasingly well-paid one. Last year, according to The Wall Street Journal, the share of LinkedIn job postings in the US mentioning “storyteller” doubled. Executives used the word on earnings calls about 30% more often than the year before.
