PN Vasudevan quits Equitas SFB as MD & CEO citing ‘perceived conflict of interest’
Equitas Small Finance Bank MD & CEO P N Vasudevan has resigned to remove investor concerns around a perceived conflict of interest, sending the bank's stock tumbling 20% to its lower circuit despite strong Q2 FY27 earnings.

P N Vasudevan, who scaled Equitas from a microfinance entity into a ₹1-lakh-crore small finance bank, has resigned as managing director and CEO of the bank seeking to remove what he described as the “overhang” of a “perceived conflict of interest”. The move triggered a sharp sell-off in the bank’s shares, which plunged 20% to hit the lower circuit of ₹52.11 on the NSE after the announcement. In his resignation letter to Equitas Small Finance Bank chairman Anil K Sharma, Vasudevan said his daughter is the co-promoter of an NBFC that received its licence from the Reserve Bank of India in 2023.
