PERM suspension: About 70% of Tech Mahindra US employees are permanent residents, says CEO Mohit Joshi- Moneycontrol.com
Tech Mahindra CEO and MD Mohit Joshi said that less than 1 percent of its workforce are on H-1B visas, while about 70 percent of its local US talent are permanent residents, making the number of new green card applications very low.

Tech Mahindra has not received any notification from the US government regarding the suspension of Permanent Labor Certification (PERM) applications for green-card sponsorship, and a significant proportion of its US workforce comprises permanent residents, the company said.
Tech Mahindra Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mohit Joshi said less than 1% of the company's workforce was on H-1B visas, while about 70% of its locally hired US workforce comprised permanent residents, keeping the number of new green-card applications low.
"We haven't been a part of the PERM list. We continue to follow regulation. Less than 1% of our employees are on H-1B visas… We have a robust hiring strategy. US labour market is extremely dynamic. We have a brand name there, which we plan to expand further," Joshi said at the company's Q2 earnings conference on October 15.
His comments come after peers HCLTech and Infosys said they did not expect the suspension to have a material impact on their operations. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) said its limited PERM applications and focus on local hiring in the US would help contain the impact.
The US Labour Department has suspended several major IT companies, including TCS, Infosys, Wipro and HCLTech, from the PERM programme, citing alleged "abuse" of employment-based immigration pathways such as H-1B visas.
Microsoft, Adobe and Cognizant have also been named in the action.
Tech Mahindra on October 15 reported a 32% year-on-year rise in net profit to Rs 1,586 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2026.
Consolidated revenue rose 15.6% year-on-year and 3% sequentially to Rs 16,180 crore.
Earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margin increased 40 basis points sequentially and 260 basis points year-on-year to 14.8%.
The company reported its fourth consecutive quarter of more than $1 billion in new deal wins. Net new deal wins stood at $1.02 billion in Q2, up 25.4% year-on-year.
