Passenger traffic declines in five of six months amid West Asia crisis
Domestic air passenger traffic in India fell 1.9% in H1 FY27 to 78.62 million passengers as high ATF prices, airspace disruptions, and capacity rationalisation weighed on demand.

Domestic air passenger traffic declined year-on-year in five of the six months between April and September, with May — the peak summer holiday period — providing the only respite, as the West Asia crisis adds to the pressure on the aviation sector through higher fuel costs, airspace disruptions and capacity rationalisation. The slowdown became more pronounced in the second quarter of FY27. Domestic airlines carried 35.95 million passengers in July-September, down 5.9% from 38.20 million in the corresponding period last year.
