MoSPI to track unpaid household work in revised labour force survey
Platform workers tracking to also improve from January

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is looking to measure unpaid household work as part of the revised Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) from January 2027. The ministry also plans to better identify digital platform workers under the survey. MoSPI has been conducting the PLFS since 2017, measuring unemployment and labour force participation. The PLFS was revamped from January 2025 to provide monthly, quarterly and annual estimates for both rural and urban areas.
