Global Market: Bank of Japan achieves 2% inflation target after 13 years
The Bank of Japan declared its long-standing 2% inflation target achieved after more than 13 years, but kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 1.25%. Persistent inflation, rising oil and semiconductor prices, and yen weakness have fuelled expectations of another rate hike in December as policymakers gradually tighten monetary policy.

The Bank of Japan (BoJ) on Friday said Japan had finally achieved its long-standing inflation target of 2%, more than 13 years after the central bank adopted the goal to pull the economy out of decades of deflation. However, policymakers decided to keep interest rates unchanged, signalling a cautious approach towards further monetary tightening, according to an AFP report. The central bank said underlying consumer price inflation had reached a level broadly consistent with its 2% price stability target and was expected to remain around that level.
