Economists slash BoP surplus estimates for FY27
Compared with $100-bn earlier, new estimates range between $15-60 bn

India’s external position is expected to deteriorate in the second half of the current financial year, despite a big balance of payments (BoP) surplus in the first half. This is because the ongoing war in West Asia might keep energy prices high and foreign portfolio investor (FPI) flows could remain under severe pressure. Economists have trimmed their full-year surplus forecasts from the nearly $100 billion projected earlier to as low as $15 billion, with optimistic forecasts now around $60 billion.
