BSE, NSE set November 8 Muhurat trading session from 2:20 pm to 3:30 pm

Moneycontrol had exclusively reported today, that, exchanges may consider the request from market participants and schedule Muhurt Trading during the day time. Last year, also, Muhurat Trading was shifted to the afternoon, from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm, instead of the customary evening slot. During the regular pre-open session, investors will be able to place, modify and cancel both limit and market orders between 2:05 pm and 2:10 pm.

From 2:10 pm to 2:15 pm, only limit orders will be permitted. Order matching and trade confirmation will take place between 2:15 pm and 2:17 pm, followed by a buffer period until continuous trading begins at 2:20 pm. For IPOs and relisted securities, the special pre-open session will run from 2:05 pm to 2:50 pm, with random closure during the final 10 minutes. Continuous trading in these securities will begin at 3:05 pm and continue until 3:30 pm.

For securities eligible for the closing auction session (CAS), the regular market will close at 3:15 pm, followed by a transition and reference-price calculation period until 3:20 pm. At the BSE, the reference price will be based on the volume-weighted average price of trades executed between 3 pm and 3:15 pm. Closing auction order entry will run from 3:20 pm to 3:30 pm. Both limit and market orders will be permitted during the first five minutes, followed by a limit-order-only period until 3:30 pm.

Order matching and trade confirmation will take place between 3:30 pm and 3:35 pm. The NSE has specified a transition period from 3:35 pm to 3:50 pm for securities covered by the closing auction session, while non-CAS securities will close at 3:30 pm. The post-close session will run from 3:50 pm to 4 pm. The exchanges will also conduct a call auction session for illiquid securities. At the NSE, order entry will be permitted from 2:25 pm to 3:10 pm, with random closure during the final minute.

Order matching will follow the order-entry period. Trade modifications will be permitted until 4:15 pm, according to the NSE circular. The exchange has also clarified that all trades executed during the Muhurat trading session will result in settlement obligations.
